HIS EXCELLENCY Trim GOVERNOR briefly introduced the
Commission and caliud upon Dr. Hallam to deal with the
medical aspect of the question.

DR. HALLAM daling separately with the problem of syphilis
and the proolem of gonorrhoea, stated that in the case of
the former disease there were three stages, which hu briefly described,
Fortunately a fow years ago a very wonderful discovery
was made by Ehrlich, This is a drug which of all drugh in
the Pharmacopez is most potent, and if the disease is taken
in time this drug will sure it,
In any stage it will make
a patient non-infective, and will also get people back to
work who have been away suffering for weeks. The one
essential is that the patient should get it as soon as
possible,
Now the Royal Commission not only gave the ineid.nce
of the disease, but also made Recommendations, One is thet
efficient treatment should be given to everybody rich or
poor, This Report was published during the War, It came
out at a most difficult time, but the feeling in Great
Britain was so strong that machinery was put in motion to
provide this particular treatment for everybody.

Turning to the other disease gonnorhoea in the
early stages the symptoms only amount to a certain amount
of discomfort, but complications are always likely to secur
and may produce very serious effects in men, especially in
women, and in the children they may have, This disease
